I guess one of the frustrating things about the shoplifting comic reaction is that: I make games and am planning to start a webcomic about a character who's a thief, and who is a... *considerably* more dubious character in terms of morals than the character in that comic.
And it's like, oh is this the reaction I'm going to get if this character becomes mildly successful? Am I going to have to swat away nazis who are determined to read that fictional character's ethics as representative of my own?
And for the record, there's a little bit more to the reaction to that shoplifting comic than just transphobia. For example: There's also some straightforward traditional misogny to it! People don't like women who are criminals, fictional or not! People HATED Skyler White!
And it's like, great, I genuinely want to write stories and make games about a fictional criminal who is a woman, AND I'm trans. I guess I'm just screwed now? People are going to assume I pickpocket strangers in my spare time? Great!
So idk. Might delete this thread later. I still want to make that webcomic--and for the record I am damn proud of the games I've made. I'll just keep pushing forward I guess, don't have much else better to do.
