Yoga Nidra of Vishnu.
I saw recently #Modi mention our practice #yoganidra as a practice for enhancing quality of sleep and wakefulness. Mentally noted it. Today I am gathering my thoughts about this practice, as I needed to do it for making up for my lack of sleep. I did.
Now yoganidra is not a #secular yoga practice. This is a dharana upaya steeped in our Agamas and puranas. Yoga maya is Vishnu's yoga Shakthi. She is awake as Vishnu's Nidra, to annihilate Madhu and kaitabha Asuras, who attack Brahma emanating from Vishnu's naabhi.
This puranic lore and tatwa is adapted in this practice to explore the three states of consciousness- wakefulness, sleep and dream state. In this practice, one has to be awake and rotate their consciousness throughout their body parts in a methodical manner.
This rotation of consciousness stimulates the respective neural circuitry in the brain, thereby relaxing them deeply while awakening them as well. And then to further enhance the relaxation, breath awareness is practiced followed by dharana on symbolisms projected onto mind screen
This practice takes about 45 mins but research has proven that its equal to 4-5 hours of sleep. Many studies have been done to determine the efficacy of this practice on the body and mental states. But, yes I have a but here! This upaya is done to bypass the sensory modalities.
And the limitations of knowledge gained only through the senses which is relative knowledge or yoga maya. But she also destroys the Avidya of relativity which is Madhu and kaitabh that emanates out of vishnu's ears as ear wax! They are annihilated to enable the leap into intuition
Such a wonderful practice is a contribution of our Rishis to this whole world. Wherever, whenever and whoever makes such references, I expect them to cite the sources properly and not to skim through to appease secular folks. I do not expect #modi to go into such depth or detail
But I do think, he could have mentioned #yoganidra as a Sanatan practice developed ingeniously by the Rishis of Yore. I am sure not many people will see this thread of mine. But millions of his Twitter account followers would have. Opportunity to uphold Dharma was lost that day.
