Today's social distancing movie is Margin Call, so I can say, yeah, I did career development while I was laid off.
I've never seen it before, unlike many of my other choices, but it's about an unnamed investment bank's handling of the 2008 financial crisis.
(I've never worked for an IB. I've worked for a mid-sized financial services company and then a regional broker-dealer. Maybe that's my next stop? Might have to sell the rest of my soul though.)
The misogyny? Accurate. #MarginCall
The lack of vapes is really what marks this as a period piece. #MarginCall
(Also the clunky cell phones and no photos taken for the 'gram.) #MarginCall
"Tranches are pieces of a pooled collection of securities, usually debt instruments, that are split up by risk or other characteristics in order to be marketable to different investors." #MarginCall
"A Mortgage Backed Security is made of multiple mortgage pools (or tranches) that have a wide variety of loans, from safe loans with lower interest rates to risky loans with higher rates." #MarginCall
Maybe it's the Slytherin in me jumping out, but, yeah, even though moves like this fucked up the global economy, of course, the people in charge are going to make them. #MarginCall
Cohen and Robertson talking about sensitive info like one of the cleaning ladies wasn't standing between them? *Chef's kiss* Seen it happen. #MarginCall
Also seen the female executive get thrown to wolves too.
This is also a vampire movie. #MarginCall
