Friends of mine have this awesome Easter tradition—get a bunch of range balls, decorate them, hide them on Easter morning then go to the driving range as a family. When quarantine kicked off, I was at their house so seeing this unfold IRL was fun.

Easter balls.

A thread.
When I say “some range balls” I mean like, a whole grip of them. “Easter Balls “ are one of those FB posts we all look forward to. I was drafted to help.

I made a bee.

Jess explained there was too much white space.

Oh. Damn. Easter Balls have standards.
I made a strawberry and lamented the green didn’t look green when I colored it over the red.

“That’s a good strawberry—now make a better one.”

Jeeze, woman

She’s wicked talented, btw, and sits and creates spheres of art while her kids are on Zoom calls for school.
Everyone in the family decorated them in the weeks leading up to Easter—they’re all golfers, so it’s multi faceted fun.

“Jess, make Earth.”

Ok.
Are—you made all seven continents?

“Yes—want to see N’s panda?”
The last week I was there the art table had a basket of balls, a tray of markers and various designs in stages of drying at all times. Everyone sat and decorated a few then went about their day. The course manager was excited to give them balls—excited to see what came back.
I must I’ve been slacking [and not feeling very creative] cause one night she dropped the hammer.
It seems like there are a lot here—and there are—but this wasn’t even half of them.

Range dude gave her a LOT of blank canvases.
Her kids are artsy and some had way more patience and creativity than my brain could process.

N’s cool guy emoji blew me away.

And inspired me.
The night before I left for home, I processed a basket of emojis—

Sad to leave. Angry about my truck. Cold inside the house. Crazy crew. I love them. Kept something pent up.

You get the point. Emojis are awesome Easter Balls!
After almost 4 weeks in a house with 6 people, my small apartment seems really quiet. And empty. And there are no Easter Balls. Just colorful updates via text.

N made a cactus—he’s so cute I squeed!
S made these guys and I love her big bright smile.
Everyone kicked in, but Jess made at least eleventy-nine.
She kept me engaged, one slice at a time reminding me social distancing doesn’t mean totally alone even if I’m solo.
Our friend @trentgibson0302 suggested she draw his dog. A GIANT Tibetan Mastiff who looks like a damn bear in every photo or video he sends.

So, she did.
That’s the thread. Easter Balls made me happy so I decided to share. Oh—wait. She posted this on Facebook yesterday and everyone chimed in w/ how much they look forward to this each year. It’s not just me. There’s a whole heap of us who love Easter Balls.
