I think you may have to live in other countries and experience their mail systems to understand what we're about to lose.

Mail is the ONLY thing we might do best in the world.

In my 1 year in Montreal, mail was routinely lost and took at least twice as long to reach me.
Also, it was not delivered to me. I had to walk half a mile to the post office to get the mail.

I had assumed that the American way of doing mail was nothing special and that all wealthy countries do what we do or better.

I was wrong.
I would routinely get frustrated to the tune of: Why does it take a full month for me to receive anything shipped from the US East Coast???
I don't know if the Quebec system is a particular mess or if all of Canada is this way.

But it was NOT WHAT WE ARE ACCUSTOMED TO, my fellow Americans.
We will not ever get it back if it collapses, which will leave many rural areas unable to get goods.

It's much easier to keep services than to rebuild them.
