I am becoming increasingly exhausted with the lack of accessible shopping that stores are implementing. Stores that are limiting the number of people in stores make it so that disabled people are often unable to access their store at all.
Some stores have created special hours, but they are always right when the store opens and they are not always widely published. I'm pretty sure Target is the only place I know of that has specific hours.
I would normally used @shipt but it hasn't been available for weeks and is so congested that I can't even get through to cancel my membership.
I have gone out at least 4 times in the past 2 weeks to only decide to not get groceries because I wasn't mentally well enough to deal with waiting in line before going into the store.
People keep saying the best thing to do is to only go out once a week, but this week I had to get cat food, prescriptions and groceries. It took 3 days because I could only deal with each step at a time.
It's information and sensory overload. Everything is different. Every store is doing something different. Some stores let you in, but who knows how many people will be there. Others make you wait outside, but who knows how long.
These are all things that are super important and required to keep everyone, including workers safe, but my brain feels like it is melting.
I don't even have the energy to figure out how to fix this. I thought maybe there could be an accessible entrance, but that puts people with invisible disabilities in danger and outs them. I thought that stores could have am and pm accessible hours, but sigh.
I did online ordering for home depot and I swear folks were glaring daggers at me as they thought I was jumping the line waiting next to the entrance for my order to come out.
Many grocery stores have online ordering but they don't have their stock up to date well enough to know if things will be available once they are filling your order.
