Another excellent thread. My dad was a lifelong Republican because he was a conservative—he valued order—but not a reactionary.

This thread also justifies @tonydowler’s long insistence on continuing to call himself a conservative. It is possible to be both conservative—valuing order and institutions that help society function—while also being progressive, looking to make things better for all.
