Hey FAM! Corey Cott is in the house! I’ll be here live tweetin’ ALL NIGHT for the virtual watch party of @BandstandBway. Join in the fun with the hash #PlaybillPlayback. Super duper pumped to get this going! We are at 15 minute call! #BeNiceAboutMyChestHair
Before every show we would have a tuning call with the band, just to make sure we were...in tune. Here is a clip from our very last tuning call. #PlaybillPlayback
THIS IS YOUR FIVE MINUTE CALL TO PLACES. #PlaybillPlayback
Alright everybody - right at 8:00 press play on those players. Here we go! #PlaybillPlayback
How good is @ABlankenbuehler’s full knowledge of swing? It constantly blows my mind. #PlaybillPlayback
The question we were always asking was: “How do physicalize and musicalize a subject that nobody wants to talk about?” #PlaybillPlayback
Also - how timely is the idea “Just Like It Was Before” right now? #PlaybillPlayback
The end of the opening number used to have a button - but one of the best changes we made in previews was segueing directly into the radio announcement. No applause needed...yet. #PlaybillPlayback
This effectively made “Donny Novitski” part two of the opening number - and now we have an action to follow as an audience. #PlaybillPlayback
From day one “Donny Novitski” was simply one of the best “I Want” songs I’d ever heard. Also the arrogance/confidence it takes for a guy to constantly refer to himself in 3rd person! #PlaybillPlayback
Side note - when my oldest son was a baby the only song that made him stop crying was DN. #PlaybillPlayback
Andy always referred to Sugar Ray Leonard for inspiration during this song. #PlaybillPlayback
Bb’s suck. #PlaybillPlayback
ENTER Nate Hopkins at Jimmy. Truly one of the funniest/talented people I know. #PlaybillPlayback
The gathering of the band in “I Know a Guy” is one of my favorite “montages” in the show. You learn the essence of what drives each character in such a short amount of time. The economy of introducing character and moving the plot is so fun! #PlaybillPlayback
First day of rehearsal Joey Pero (Nick) got hit by a car, and missed the first months of the show. The amazing Alex Bender took over for him and crushed it. Gladly Joey healed in time to be in the movie! Oh he went to Julliard for trumpet. #PlaybillPlayback
HOW INCREDIBLE IS THIS SEXY ENSEMBLE. #PlaybillPlayback
Yes, everybody is playing their instruments throughout the show. #PlaybillPlayback
There is a second verse to “Aint We Proud” on the album, but it was cut in previews for time. #PlaybillPlayback
The band was constantly elevating each other. The experienced actors helping the experienced musicians, and vice versa. A beautiful collaboration. #PlaybillPlayback
ENTER QUEEN @LauraOsnes. Entrance applause everybody. #PlaybillPlayback
This is by far one of my favorite @ABlankenbuehler creations in the show. Asking that tough question again: how to dramatically use choreo to convey a complex mental condition like PTSD? Also @geoffardy giving one of the most beautiful layered performances.
“Who I Was” was created after Papermill. The team wanted to give Julia her own “I Want” song in a way, allowing the audience to learn about how she is coping with losing her husband. Also @LauraOsnes perfect tone elevates it to heaven. So good. #PlaybillPlayback
Side note: I’d be eating a jolly rancher in Beth’s dressing room during this song. #PlaybillPlayback
