as i was saying before twitter shat the bed and deleted part of my stream of consciousness, in my uni career i found my own region's history and politics tansplained to me by a total of 3 ppl which means that i had to deal with about 0.75 of a person tansplaining to me per year
hits include:

1) "Russia only finds American power in Europe scary. If we replace NATO with a European defence alliance they will no longer be so alert!" Same person opposed Ukrainian accession to the EU because it "intrudes" "on" "Russia's" "zone of influence"
2) Guy: "For instance, what happened in the Crimea."
Lecturer: "Care to elaborate for those unfamiliar?"
Guy: "Well, you see, Ukraine is a very young country, and it's also very corrupt. So when riots started in Kyiv, Russia had to take the Crimea under its protection."
3) Guy, discussing the idea of EU-wide referenda on certain matters: "Yeah, no, that would be insane. No offence, but I don't want you people over there voting on our matters. You can say what you like but you have to admit you are very reactionary over there."
(Laughs in country where support for the EU is at 80%+)
