As a Fifth Harmony fan, I can recognize when a record label is employing the old “divide & conquer tactic”. Divide & enrage sections of the fanbase that way we won’t be able to put up a united front to protect the group as a whole which of course makes them even more vulnerable.
It plants seeds of doubt into the fanbase, the press & eventually members of the group itself. We start to question them. We start to question their work & their ethics. We start to question their worth as a group & as women. YG wants us to ask those questions about Blackpink.
Fifth Harmony were immensely vulnerable as teenage girls new to the music industry & Epic Records took FULL advantage of that from top to bottom. We can’t go back in time to 2012 & prevent 2017 from happening but we can prevent a 2017 from happening to Blackpink.
Blinks have to become a united front first though. Harmonizers weren’t able to for a variety of difficult reasons but Blinks can learn from those mistakes. We couldn’t take Epic Records to task but Blinks can still tackle YG, we just have to believe that we can first & foremost.
