This can be a really good time to cultivate in a culture of minimalist lifestyle. Let's teach our children by practicing ourself, and relearn to re use, reduce and recycle. If something gets broken, let's fix it. Repairing and reusing should be praised more, not stigmatised.
I've been thinking about this for a while now. Everything that's happened with the pandemic made me realise how much we waste. Maybe it's because I lived in a place of abject poverty I learned to appreciate it. We used to fix our shoes, umbrellas and backpacks where I lived,
I learnt that if something gets broken you fix it. Not throw it away and buy a new one. We've gotten so used to having everything so easily available, we don't think for a second before throwing something away for a minor flaw. Stop buying into the capitalist propaganda.
We don't need new everything. We need to demand better quality than, getting excited over new things every year. It'd be really nice to see children learn this. It's just something that's been on my mind awhile.
