"Ok fine, everyone loves TV and movies. But on your phone? In 6-10 minute increments? Unclear." https://divinations.substack.com/p/quibi-will-be-a-multi-billion-dollar better ways to spend 6-10 minutes on your phone than watching TV and movies which take, and should take, 30-180 minutes:
- asynchronous conversations with friends and correspondents (or "contacts")
- read your curated idea and conversation feed on Twitter
- read your curated art feed on Instagram
- read articles saved to Pocket
- read books on Kindle
plan art projects within a group chat (maybe we need better group chat mobile software, like fun/lightweight studios or workshops, record little sound bites and send to the group for approval...crowdsourced asynchronous turn-based movie-making using group approval move by move)!
don't give in to let every 6-10 minutes get consumed by the culture industry
the question is always "who’s the radio announcer here?"

you shoulda read @Lefsetz in 2015!

"Apple Music’s playlists aren’t bad, but who made them?"

"The future is TRUSTED filters directing the audience where to partake of desirable music." https://lefsetz.com/wordpress/2015/08/17/charts-not-playlists/
all depends who's on your board of informants (i.e. the ~150 you follow)

this is honestly the most important "real estate" there is — access to the means of curating your intake on signals — because that determines what your quality of inner life is!

Baby, don't worry 'bout it
Hey there, don't even think about it

i mean, this article is almost absurd, they're just trying to replace reality and a personal life with entertainment

this is, perhaps, the story of "media" in perpetuity, and only now it's crystal clear to me
the discussion of meaning and communication sputters out, and the article pivots to charts, projections and economics, almost like no one can tolerate talking about meaning and who we are
when, really, the media we ingest is what we become, and unfortunately, we have to do the irksome work ourselves of creating inbound signals toward us, and shouldn't rely on entertainment and media companies to be the ones programming our brains with images of what reality is
this is really about competing philosophies of what we should be busy with
and the answer to that is to go back to what we wrote two years ago and what mattered then and improve it

we have to clean up what we are

no one wants to hear this lol
