There is a lot in this story. Some of the allegations are horrendous and should be investigated by the party end of. https://twitter.com/RaynerSkyNews/status/1249053545837604864
But what where they doing in a potential submission to the EHRC? The argument appears to be that anti-Corbyn staff (especially in the McNicol era) acted factionally in a way that lead to failings in dealing with antisemitism
But whilst there is proof of factionalism (nasty, unpleasant factionalism) there is nothing linking this to action on antisemitism. So this is just an attempt to attack the characters (and therefor credibility) of the whistleblowers
If panorama et al were false then you wouldn’t need to point to nasty messages by the whistleblowers. You would include solid evidence that they were lying/wrong.
Also people aren’t black and white. Horrendous messages don’t mean you don’t handle antisemitism well. Hating Corbyn doesn’t mean you break your NDA to lie about what happened in the party. Also donating a kidney doesn’t mean you don’t block sex pest’s suspensions
The Corbynite argument for ages has been McNicol was awful and Formby fixed an inherited broken system. Well there is no evidence that Formby improved the system before she was forced to by the EHRC investigation. And there is evidence of at best bad judgment calls on her behalf
Formby appointed Gardiner almost immediately. He undermined and overruled GLU, acted awfully on antisemitism cases and (initially at least) reported directly to Formby. Also under Formby were things like IHRA debate and the Williamson shitshow
There is also no evidence that McNicol or his staff purposely acted poorly on antisemitism. This *is* evidence of a LOTO staff interfering in antisemitism and SH cases under McNicol, but that’s the fault of Corbyn not McNicol
There is also no evidence of anti-Corbyn factionalism being involved in antisemitism failings (there is of pro Corbyn members being let off though). But there is a conspiracy and an delegation of duty that somehow antisemitism is the fault of anti-Corbyn people
We’ve heard Corbyn, his supportive shadow cabinet members, support senior union officials etc blame anti-Corbynites (at least partly) for the antisemitism crisis
The fact that party staff were pursuing a character assassination instead of dealing with antisemitism cases is shameful. The fact that the party cares more about settling old scores not actually investigating its processes is unacceptable
This dossier was a stupid idea, the EHRC aren’t going to be swayed by stuff not relating to the case. But the old party establishment is, now it’s leaked, trying to use it to its advantage- encouraging the EHRC to ignore whistleblower testimony
The party is choosing what documents are ‘relevant’ to the investigation. Lying to the EHRC is (I think) perjury. I’m sure the EHRC will see this dossier, and see it for what it is. Nothing more than the old establishment doing all they can to shift the inevitable blame
Also this has happened under Corbyn. Wether the blame falls more on McNicol or Formby doesn’t absolve him of responsibility.
Here’s a very good thread on the article
