Some quick thoughts on Fort Hill Park in Peekskill. I’ve sort of rediscovered it this past week...

First off...the main entrance off Decatur is - and has been - an embarrassment for Peekskill for as long as I’ve lived here. It is consistently garbage-strewn and neglected. The city sidewalk stops 15 feet shy of the entrance.

Back in October the city competed for and won a $200K state grant to improve trails and generally spruce it up.

Amazing news and I hope the grant still comes through despite the COVID pandemic and what it’s doing to the state budget.

If / when they get the grant money, I hope the first thing the city does is replace what I assume was a nice wood bench built into the landing off Decatur as part of the gorgeous WPA retaining wall and stairs built nearly a century ago.
