After a tough week for many communities of color, I'm feeling inspired by my mentors and colleagues who, in the midst of caring for patients, families, and themselves, have taken the time to lend their voices to advocate for #HealthEquity in the #COVID19 pandemic.

THREAD 1/
To all of #medtwitter and beyond, if you haven’t had the chance already, please fire up your "follow" button for Dr. @CamaraJones, the prolific expert on race and health who has spent this week sharing with the American public on the importance of #HealthEquity in #COVID19

2/
Along with being in nearly every newspaper and television news channel this week, Dr. @CamaraJones also joined several policymakers and public media leaders for a virtual town hall on "Black America and the Coronavirus."

Dr. @LisaCooperMD is another physician-scientist and fierce leader (who you must start following) that has lent her voice to advocate for racial equity amid the #COVID19 pandemic. Article after article has cited her insight and she also co-wrote a piece in Politico this week.
5/
I’m not sure if you’ve heard of her (he writes, sarcastically) but Dr. @uche_blackstock has gone OFF this week. So much so that my non-medical siblings are now sending me clips of her news stories. Nearly 2 weeks ago she interviewed with @Slate to discuss this issue.

“One thing I have noticed is that many Black patients work for the city as essential employees. They're bus drivers. They work for transit. They can’t afford to be out of work and they still have to work. They don’t have the luxury of working remotely.” 8/ https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/03/how-racial-health-disparities-will-play-out-in-the-coronavirus-pandemic.amp?__twitter_impression=true
“Our call for the reporting of race data isn't based on an argument that some races are more susceptible to COVID19. Our call is based on widely known history that U.S. health institutions were designed to discriminate against blacks..” -@alethamaybank /13 https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/07/opinion/coronavirus-blacks.html
Beyond the page, my new best friend @EbonyJadeHilton (thanks for the connection @taisonbell) also has been quoted several times this week and had a wonderful opportunity to connect with the public on @MSNBC and speak on the issue.

As did a wonderful role model Dr. Clyde Yancy ( @NMHheartdoc) on @NBCNewsNow...

And Dr. David Williams ( @D_R_Williams1), another health equity leader that anyone who is passionate about race and public health must be following, spoke on @NewsHour early on in this crisis.

I’ll pause to note that all but one of these pieces were penned by a physician of color, mostly women. We are out here. We are EM, ICU and ID docs, PCPs and specialists. We're med school deans, Chiefs, Chairs, public health and health system leaders. /20 https://twitter.com/choo_ek/status/1247614204279844864?s=20
I'm sure I speak for many of my colleagues when I say we are here and stand ready to work with local and national public health officials and policymakers to address these overwhelming disparities, to diversify triage committees, and serve on COVID-19 health equity panels... /21
...because I refuse to have my future daughter sit in her medical school class years from now and wonder why our generation did not do enough to stop black and brown people from disproportionately dying from yet another virus. #HealthEquity #COVID19 22/22 https://twitter.com/LashNolen/status/1247947382680989696?s=20
P.S. I know I’ve likely missed many articles and news appearances and that this thread was in no way comprehensive. Thank you for adding any others below or DM me others. Anything and all we can do to continue to amplify this message is critical. ❤️✊🏾
