I’m STILL surprised when I hear that “woke” black faculty (that discuss/research/LIVE race) have white partners. I’m always confused. I thought my time with Jim would have inured me to this phenomenon but I’m always caught off guard.

The numbers don’t lie; I know more black faculty married to White people than any other race. I was told that to be in the academy as a black researcher you HAD TO marry a White person. Still surprises me.
