the facade of YouTube as if they're just kids like you making videos from home. (1st big example of this was probably FRED about 10 years ago) arguably YouTubers, TikTok'ers, Instagram'ers are more popular w/ kids than many Hollywood movies/TV shows but there has not been[con't]
a big study as to exactly WHO is really behind this content made by and aimed at youth. much like indie rap, you have to dig to find who is behind the "talent." dig enough and pretty much every modern rapper is run by Universal Music Grp. Casey Neistat was probably the 1st[con't]
mainstream YouTuber to blow up (his audience was/is adults in addition to kids) and the more you look the more you see even tho his vlogs are personal, his livelihood is funded/backed by Samsung & other corporate clients. near harmless compared to Disney/Maker Studios and[con't]
similar online content studios aimed directly at kids as soon as they're old enough to pick up their parents' devices. take a good look at the 1M+ subscriber YouTubers aimed @ kids & see they are mainly promoting + glorifying commercialism, sexuality, cell phone addiction[con't]
violence, celebrity worship, etc. this is just as pervasive as movies/TV on today's youth. it's just more hidden because it's not advertised on bus benches, big outdoor billboards and flashy commercials. but it's out there and it's what kids are watching, sadly.[con't]
