I hate being right. Why can't I be right about fun things, like unicorns and puppies? No, no, I get to be right about calling out unethical human subjects research experimentation. (Thanks for letting me know, @AltBrutus.)

Ugh. Armstrong, the physician, is calling it an observational trial. Which, no. Just. No. For one thing, ANY clinical trial requires informed consent, from either the patient or–if they are not competent–their medical proxy.

That's not happening here. #Hydroxychloroquine
Armstrong says he doesn't nee to get consent from patient or family member to prescribe medications; perhaps this is part of the agreement families sign when placing their loved one in care, but if you ever see that in a form, run, don't walk, from the facility. #bioethics
Patients have a fundamental right to knowledge about their health, condition, and medical treatment. They have the right to consent TO treatment, or say no. It's literally part of the @AmerMedicalAssn Code of Ethics: https://www.ama-assn.org/delivering-care/ethics/informed-consent

Patients who are not competent–who, for example, have dementia–can still assent to care, but consent must come elsewhere. The idea that this doctor can prescribe willynilly is fundamentally antithetical to concepts of medical ethics and medical practice within the USA. #covid19
