190E (1) > I have an idea. I am going to walk thru a paint from start to finish thru tweets. Feel free to follow along. I have no idea at all how this will go. It may take a few days or a couple of weeks. But, I am going to walk thru some of the key things I do when painting.
190E (2) > I am going to paint the 1990 Merc 190E in FM7. @PTG_Jamie has just recently shared a tune for this car and it needs a paint. I have already downloaded Jamie& #39;s paint and he is using Forza aero on the front and stock wheels.
190E (3) > Ooops .... sorry. I downloaded Jamie& #39;s TUNE .... not paint.

190E (4) > If you& #39;re familiar with my paints, I tend to try to create period-accurate race paints most often. So, I think we& #39;ll go with a mid-90s DTM style paint here.
190E (5) > I always start with a white base as it& #39;s easier to see and follow the body line of the car to me. I also always paint the driver& #39;s side (left side) first.
190 (6) > Next I gather some key reference info. I need to find the proper angle to rotate vinyls on the sides to match the flow of the body lines. For the 190E, I see two key body lines to use. Spin of 0.9 for the bottom (blue) and spin of 2.0 for the top (green).
190 (7) > Next I will add cross-hair reference lines to find out what movements are needed to align our 2nd side (copied) to match the 1st side. Almost all cars in the games don& #39;t line up properly on their own. Wrap these grid lines from front to back and over the top.
190 (8) > Using the Insert All From Right/Left Side option, we can note how well-aligned the two sides are for later use. The 1st shot shows that the right side is 2 steps too high and the 2nd shot shows that the right side is 3 steps off to the rear.
190 (9) > Meaning that when we work on the right side later, we will need to adjust the entire copied left side down 2 steps and forward 3 steps to properly align the vinyls.
190 (10) > So at this point, I have all the reference info I will use and the stage is set to start the design. Posts may not come as frequently now as the following design steps may take longer, but ask questions any time if you have them.
190E (11) > Many times my designs start out by highlighting or working around the wheels or wheel arches. That will likely be the next step here.
190E (12) > Some cars have bodywork that looks very much as if it is or could have been bolted on. The 190E is definitely on of those. Here I add some rivets to simulate that look. Not sure if they& #39;ll end up being used, but on this car it looks like it could be a nice treatment.
190E (13) > Next I will add vinyl layers to fill the lower body panels under the rivets. That way I can color this differently later to enhance or highlight the wheels.
190E (14) > Some gradient shading underneath those layers add depth to give the simulated bodywork a more 3D feel.
190E (15) > Starting to add some necessary decals before starting base layers. I know some will start with base design layers, but in many cases I like to know what I will need to work around to be able to show what I want to show.
190E (16) > Tried some different color combos but ended up choosing green/black. Added a green base layer and changed the vinyl groups we already had to the same green. Top is a single black vinyl shape. Painted rear wing black in paint booth.
190E (17) > The texture on the side is a honeycomb vinyl group from my library. It is a brighter green but with transparency set pretty low so that it doesn& #39;t overpower anything else. Black gradient at the top of the sides to blend the black top down.
190E (18) > Added some accent striping over the wheels and wrapped black around the back to match striping and rear wing.
190E (19) > Thanks to @RallyzX360& #39;s suggestion, tweaked the angle of the honeycomb a bit to match the bodywork at mid-door level.
190E (20) > Starting to take more shape now. I had decided earlier on Tein as a primary sponsor ... leading to the choice of green in the base. I already had some Tein graphics done and haven& #39;t used them in a while. Also added some minor sponsor decals.
190E (21) > Decisions ... decisions ...

190E (22) > Taking a bit of a break for now. I have a Tein logo in my library, but I am going to do some custom work on it. Will post it up here when it& #39;s ready.
