Quarantine projects, day 29. Replacing my condenser fan motor.
Pulling it apart is the easy part

New condenser fan motor that I ordered online.
Mrs. Nitz is now rolling her eyes telling me nobody wants to see this. But how will she feel about saving $500? #DIY.
Reassembly went smoothly. There is heat shrink tubing for the conduit fitting but I donât own a heat gun (yet). I did it the old fashion way, with a flame.
Time to wire it up!

Time to wire it up!
Wiring the fan motor, just three wires back in the same location. Power is off and I discharged the capacitor. Safety first
.

Ok. First problem. The motor turns the fan in the wrong direction. Itâs blowing air down, not up. Stand by...Iâm going to reverse the wiring.
Yep, that did it. I switched the purple and brown wires to reverse the direction of the motor. Electrically this is fine but...
Why if it is an OEM motor with the same wire colors did it not wire the same way? Makes no sense. Maybe a real HVAC person can explain this mystery.

Success! Thatâs about $500 saved.
