I think the reason all of this is so deeply, deeply frustrating to me is that as an incident responder, I rely on a clear DR cycle of prepare, identify, contain, eradicate, recover - and it doesn’t seem like we have a coordinated handle on a single one of those things right now.
There wasn’t adequate preparation, identification of a threat wasn’t adequately communicated, containment requires testing and controls we don’t have in place, and herd immunity eradication is a long way off despite noble efforts. I don’t see how we can skip those stages.
If you’re a DR or IR person like me, do a little introspection and see if that’s something that’s causing you substantial stress, even though we can’t impact it much.
