#Easter . The aisles of church were one of the 1st runways we walked. The front row of pews — with all of the hats, suits, gloves, adornments — was our fashion front row before fashion week.

We could take off work uniforms + identities society assigned to us for self expression.
One reason why church style + #Easter style, is important in the Black community is bcuz it was commonly the only day of the wk where we weren’t in work uniforms—Think about the kinds of roles we were historically allowed to occupy

Sunday was the day where you could be YOURSELF
Important to note about church style — ironically it was the only place where most of the hetero/cis/straight Black community felt they could express themselves

While simultaneously closing off our queer/trans/gay/non gender conforming fam for expressing their true selves.
I wish church wasn’t so bigoted in its understanding of the LGBTQ community — God DEF loves the kids AND would stan to see them in church being their whole selves in their church lewks! 💅🏽

I want to see Black Church progress pass the manipulative preaching around our LGBTQ fam
