like = 1 lukewarm take about happiness
/ Happiness is a nice, fun emotion to have. It shouldn’t be treated as a permanent state of affairs you *have* to aspire to.
/ It’s fine to be happy. It’s nice. It’s not an emotion that makes you shallow or less complex or less capable of understanding the world. I might not see as a top priority, but it also makes life much more pleasurable and bearable.
/ Most of the paths to happiness splooting themselves all over the internet don’t work that well, might not work at all or could even make you worse.
/ Assuming that unhappiness is solely fixable with a change of mindset is bad actually (and anyone promoting that needs to stop)
/ Happiness is pretty individual. Be kind to people if your happy methods aren’t working for them.
/ It’s fine to be happy by a route that *isn’t* circuitous. It still counts. Medication and watching Netflix are paths to happiness as valid as working on an involved project. You have to pick what best works for your needs.
/ I see happiness as a brief emotional state - like that fluttering feeling in your guts when you have a crush on someone. Treating it solely as an emotional state is actually really helpful to me as it helps me think about what I want most, and whether that *is* a brief rush.
/ Your happiness doesn’t have to be socially useful. Treat yourself and take some space.
/ Being totally silly is totally valid.
/ Just...let people enjoy things.
/ As per rest of this thread, I won’t tell anyone else they *should* be made happy by this, but space makes me ecstatic
