THE BOOK WAS WAY BETTER THAN THE NETFLIX SERIES AND IT HONESTLY DESERVED BETTER OKAY BYE
I have my reasons why I didn& #39;t like the series
First of all, I read 13 Reasons Why is middle school, this book shook me to my core and I loved every single word of it.
I was excited when I heard about it getting a show. But then...I watched it and I was mad...

Now this is all my personal opinion on why I have big issues with this show and why I refuse to ever look at that show ever again
It has traumatized me and physically scarred me in many ways, and I& #39;m going through all of that again

Actual trigger warning here
This gonna talk heavily on suicide and rape/assault, including some mention of gun violence

Now, in the book, the entire setting was placed in 2007. Where technology didn& #39;t factor a huge role in the plot.
2017 HOWEVER, technology was used for almost every single drama stirring event in this show
Just something I& #39;d mention, since there are certain photos shown in show

First of all, the message portrayed by this show felt like it was saying that suicide is alright, as long as you fully justify it by blaming everyone else for the actions YOU do.
Second; this show had caused suicide rates to spike up. 53% of Google search results were that of "How to kill yourself" or "Committing suicide"
This show didn& #39;t even put a PSA warning until 2019 when the 3rd season came out. The show came out in 2017.

They decided try and remove certain scenes from the show in 2019, but it was already too late.
So many people had been mentally scarred or others had taken their life. Parents were outraged at the show and it honestly stirred up large controversy

The show felt like a real money grabber in my honest opinion, and I felt like they destroyed the entire plot of the book and replaced it with something entirely bad.
In the books, the cassette tapes Hannah created were ONLY meant to be known throughout the ones it was meant for, and only them
In the show, however, it seems like almost EVERYONE, even the whole school, knows

Now onto character and plot wise;
First of Hannah& #39;s character. I couldn& #39;t really feel for her. She felt so entitled and selfish, blaming others for her own actions and even pushing away Clay who obviously tried to help her.

The way she directed her tapes towards the others felt more as in guilt tripping them, basically saying "You either did this to me or you weren& #39;t here for me"
Hannah& #39;s suicide felt more as in "I& #39;m gonna do this to make y& #39;all learn a lesson."o
Hannah& #39;s suicide felt more as in "I& #39;m gonna do this to make y& #39;all learn a lesson."o
On top of her suicide, Netflix depicted the scene in such a gruesome way. I had nightmares because of it.
The way it was shown was...sort of similar of a "How To Do It Yourself" home video. Which is NOT what should& #39;ve been done if you& #39;re tryna PREVENT suicide

In the book, it was only mentioned she overdosed. Her suicide isn& #39;t so highly DETAILED as the show made it
Now onto Clay. I..I honestly tried to like him.
Clay in the book was able to power through all 13 cassette tapes in one night.
This Clay took his sweet time doing so, he was even called out on that by one of the other characters
Also, when did Clay have "visions", Netflix??

Now, there are other scenes I have issues with.
Just like the Hannah commiting suicide scene, they didn& #39;t hold back when it came to the rape scene and a very graphic bullying scene
In the book Hannah witnessed a girl being raped while she was hiding in a closet at a party

In the show, Hannah was the one to be raped. And this scene traumatized just as much as the suicide scene did
Netflix didn& #39;t hold back, as I said already. And again, no warning of it whatsoever
I had to skip that entire scene because my PTSD was on the verge of losing control

And then, the infamously bullying scene.
This next one is gonna be very intense, it& #39;s a traumatic depicition of sexual assault. So be warned reading this. Or skip if you& #39;d rather not read

TW: SEXUAL ASSAULT
Now in season 2, there& #39;s an episode that shows a character named Tyler being corned into the guy& #39;s restroom by a group of dudes and some dude named Monty. They start to violently attack him until they being shoving his face into a toilet. And THEN...

TW: SEXUAL ASSAULT
The others hold Tyler down as Monty grabs a mop and takes the wooden part of the mop
And then begins to rape him with it, physically hurting Tyler
This scene itself is what officially made me walk away from it all
I was not mentally prepared and it ruined me

This was a finale for the second season and I was so angry and traumatized
It then ends with Tyler trying to shoot up the school, but Clay stops him at the last minute

Also, when did we get from Hannah to Tyler going to shoot up the school to A MURDER MYSTERY???
Again! Feels like a huge money grabber!

Now, I would like to get into more of the characters or this show, but this thread is already too long and I really wanna go back to drawing
And, yes. This show does have some good things about it.
Some of the acting was pretty good in the first season
We had some good diversity in the characters (the book never specified character descriptions)
And we got some LGBT stuff
But still...
