I just wanted to bring this back because something has been gnawing on me all night. There was a bit in the SC wrap up special where a group of mom& #39;s wrote a letter to thank them, and while I know their heart was in the right place, their wording left me distressed... https://twitter.com/FriendlessMean/status/1144623188766314496">https://twitter.com/Friendles...
The goal of queer art shouldn& #39;t be about complacency or making it self more palatable to for a straight audience. It can be inviting, it can enlightening, but it should never be made to feel like it has to lessen itself to be accepted by everyone...
Once again, I completely understand the intentions of that letter, and in theory it& #39;s such a sweet thing, but the implication that SC& #39;s love story is a "respectful" representation flies in the face of every other queer artist putting their story out there in an honest fashion.
This is not SC& #39;s fault by any measure, but this sort of reaction to it frustrates me because it makes me want to scream, "NO, YOU HAD TO DO THE TRANSLATING THIS TIME, AND YOU WANT A REWARD FOR IT".
