Just thinking about the time my best friend & I hit an open-range cow & I made the bit of shattered-passenger-side mirror into a necklace for her after all her jewelry got stolen by a meth-addicted mover she hired (didn& #39;t know that initially) before leaving for Egypt. Good times.
Or the time we nearly ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere & when we finally found someone to ask where the nearest gas station was pointed us in the direction we knew would not take us to the nearest gas station. We did eventually find one, on fumes, & we laughed & laughed.
Or the time we chose the most difficult trail to hike in 100 degrees and 100% humidity & during the night a bear lumbered into camp & we both pretended not to hear it until I finally broke & said, "do you hear that?" and she did, and we waited breathlessly until it lumbered away.
Or the time the car broke down in the middle of Bonaventure Cemetery right before we were going home & the groundskeeper told us it happened all the time & then we waited 3 hrs for Triple A to come & wiggle something under the hood and the car started right up.
I& #39;ve just had this exchange with my best friend, who now lives in the UAE.
She also sent a picture of the necklace, which looked gold in the one she sent, so she sent another picture on a different background and it looks silver like it should because it is.
Oh right, the actually scary lightning storm we drove through and literally outran after we went 30 miles out of the way to find the "fluffy baked potatoes" that the Wendy& #39;s advertisement had proclaimed on some highway sign. They were indeed fluffy. It was worth it.
Or the time we drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville, when the sign said, DON& #39;T DRIVE ON THE PARKWAY WHEN THERE& #39;S FOG, but there wasn& #39;t fog when we got on the parkway until there was & we listened to Arlo Guthrie& #39;s "Motorcycle Song" & ate hummus & pita from Harris Teeter.
And really, who can forget Dinosaur Land? The best $5 we ever spent and how I learned that my grandmother and I have identical facial expressions.
Or that time when we went to 3 Ani DiFranco concerts in a matter of months (MD, NY, and MA) to see which venue & audience was the most fun. Definitely Ram& #39;s Head in Maryland.
Or when we saw the Allman Brothers Band & didn& #39;t understand why the loud speaker announcement kept saying marshmallows were prohibited (one word: napalm) & the lady in front of us kept kicking her leg up & screaming "I& #39;m 50 yrs old" & this was BEFORE Mary Katherine Gallagher!
Ahh, what fun, albeit a little bittersweet ,since we were supposed to have an epic adventure this summer that& #39;s been cancelled due to the pandemic. But that just means we& #39;ll have to do something extra fun once we can again. As we now say, "I wonder what will happen this time."
