Let’s talk about PPE. First, there is a global shortage, the U.K. has spent (or committed in spending) to nearly a trillion dollars to help with the pandemic, so let’s all agree that they are not trying to save money by not purchasing PPE.

We know that the the U.K. has large stockpiles of a lot of equipment, vaccines and others to try and mitigate what could happen, and now is happening that’s being tested to its limit by the demand.

Here’s the numbers that the NHS has distributed since the end of February.
158 million masks
1 million gowns
135 million aprons
360 million pairs of gloves
That’s a lot of PPE. However, it clearly hasn’t been enough as stocks are running low.

It’s known the Government stockpiles for emergencies and the Welsh government have released their supplies already, meaning they are going to really struggle (note Labour should take the blame here, but it’s not a blame game).

Has the UK released its pandemic stockpiles? You’ve seen the numbers issued, they are astronomical figures, but have they depleted the stockpile.
I would say that the U.K. is using the Stockpiles to keep Trusts with PPE - no one has said they have none! https://www.supplychain.nhs.uk/news-article/nhs-supply-chains-response-for-managing-any-cases-of-novel-coronavirus-covid-19-infections/

Then we have the needless blame at the Gov. for not doing anything to get the frontline PPE. They have! They stockpiled and prepared. Now the entire world wants PPE maintaining that stock isn’t as easy as the Labour Party claim. Here are links to 2 documents. One in 2011, the other in 2013 that updated the UKs planning for pandemics.

The documents both stress how dangerous a new strain of the flu could be, let alone a new virus!

Here’s the estimates based on the predictions, again, this is just more influenza, not a new Coronavirus (SARS etc...) the documents also outline the plans. (Which people are shocked we are following).

I would love for the frontline to have everything they need, I’m sure the government will want the same! So saying they need to do more is counterproductive, it achieves nothing! Here’s a massive order we placed at the start, cancelled by France.

“We are facing a big problem: who to prioritise" explained company director Nicolas Brillat. "The requisition does not allow any wiggle room for us to deliver to the NHS, but it is complicated because the NHS was the first client to order and uses our masks all year long."

The BBC never reported this story as it doesn’t look good for the EU or France! Worsened by the statement the company put out expressing their disgust at the law!

Then there’s the blame the government received for not joining the EUs procurement scheme as that would help get the equipment we need faster.... well how much has this scheme delivered to member states? Nothing. Not a single face mask and they now say it’ll take a few months.
Here’s a nice link to an article.
The government apparently put Brexit above people breathing in this article...

Yet the EU haven’t got a plan to deliver the ventilators, they have had a high profile resignation because they can’t coordinate, they are now showing that they are ineffective, inefficient and no good for the member states.
This could be their end.

I have put all this out there with plenty of links. To summarise, you can’t prepare for everything, we did try, and we have followed (with all parties originally agreeing) the scientific/medical advice and plan.
Still, the blame game and point scoring will continue.

Lastly, Corbyn’s spending hasn’t been proven correct because of the pandemic! His claim it has, is utterly pathetic! His plans were completely different, his spending on top of this would have 100% bankrupted us by the end of February!
