ok lemme make my thread debunking all the reasons people bandwagon hate elena gilbert now.

1. “she cries too much!!” okay first let’s start with one of the biggest reasons people seem to hate elena so much. so this is a common theme, which i feel is such bullshit, i mean when we look at the show fr, elena barely cried, and when she did cry it was because of something+

tragic, like for example, her aunt jenna, brother, & parents dying. just like caroline cried when her mother and father died and how bonnie cried when her grams died, or how matt cried when vicki died. crying is a pretty BIG theme in tvd, and hating a character because they cry+

too much is just immature. i know this is a common argument but it needs to be said. “you would do the same exact thing if you lost the number of people she had.” because let’s not lie, you would!

2. “she always needs a man” this one is so misogynistic and i feel like it comes more from the jealous fans who hate elena because they worship the salvatore brothers. elena never needed a man, one of elena’s biggest storyline was her love triangle with the brothers so of course+

that’s gonna be a big theme in the show, i mean that’s one of the first things you see when you look at the summary. this also plays on one of the other reasons people hate elena, “she didn’t deserve the salvatore brothers.” as if she begged for their affections,, but anyways+

elena having too much men is not only slut-shaming but false. elena only had 4 boyfriends in her whole life and they we’re all separated between chapters of her life. matt, her early teen years. stefan, her late teen years, and damon & liam, her college years. yet damon is more+

more complicated. the person with the most so’s in the shows history is caroline, SHE had the most significant others. klaus, a fling, stefan, her husband, alaric, also her husband i’m not sure about that one , damon also a fling, tyler lockwood, boyfriend and matt, boyfriend+

so why isn’t caroline also hated because of her huge theme of having so many significant others, why is this misogynistic bandwagon line used on elena but not caroline? i guess we’ll never know.

3. “she couldn’t pick a brother.” this one is kinda hard to work with so it’ll be short. elena could pick a brother. there is countless times we see elena tell damon she “chooses stefan and that it will always be stefan.” after stelena’s relationship together, STEFAN breaks up+

with her she moves on and finds love with his brother, damon. elena never cheated on stefan and when she was in a relationship with one of them she made it crystal clear she was. you could say she had conflicting feelings but not that she couldn’t pick a brother.

4. “everyone died/sacrificed themselves for her.” this one is just plain victim-blaming. we see elena try to prevent her friends from saving or protecting her, its almost repetitive. a common character we see elena antis use as an example is bonnie. bonnie never died for elena+

sometimes i think you guys forget what sacrifice means. the most bonnie had ever lost was her grams, and that was from helping damon get into the tomb. i bet you guys can’t name one main character that actually died or lost something to save elena. the only things i think of off

the top of my head is bonnie’s mother turning into a vamp, (which had more to do with saving the mikaelsons then her.) and john gilbert (who i think we all hated) dying to save her in 2x21.

5. “didnt think if anyone else wanted cure” elena was going to give the cure to stefan. that just shows you how selfless she is considering that all she ever wanted was to have children and a normal life. somebody that elena antis throw around when using this argument is rebekah.

rebekah is set out to get the cure. after damon and elena live out their lives. most of you obviously weren’t paying any attention to the originals or tvd, because elena, damon, and rebekah made a pretty solid deal which rebekah agreed to.

i mean can you guys name anybody else who actually wanted the cure. you’d think they’d step up if they did. but the only person who did was rebekah, so....

6. “she didn’t realize bonnie was dead for an entire summer” maybe elena would realize if bonnie wasn’t sending emails back and forth. this one is just plain dumb, everyone thought that bonnie was on vacay including caroline, who is also bonnie’s friend. when you get emails+

from somebody frequently you wouldn’t just up and decide that they’re dead just because something feels off. no one and i mean NO ONE noticed bonnie’s was dead. like at all. no one “found out”, jeremy had to tell damon.

7. “she didn’t realize stefan was at the bottom of a river for an entire summer” again no one did. caroline who is his best friend didn’t notice, alaric didn’t notice and damon his OWN brother didn’t notice. the only person who had a inkling that something was wrong was, yup!+

you guessed right, ELENA. she felt something was wrong but didn’t want to act on it because she thought stefan hated her for falling for his brother. so she kept her distance. but if she hadn’t trust me she would be the first person notice somethong was off with him.
