How we experience this lockdown has everything to do with class. You can’t deny it. I’ve spent most of my day walking around Highbury & Islington in London doing street outreach for the homeless community. I was amazed at how many people there were out in shorts & flip flops.
They were stood chatting, in queues for high end butchers, coffee takeaway shops, drinking craft beer being sold outside of pubs. They prowled the streets without a fear or care in the world - like their privilege & wealth made them immune. It’s so blinding. Getting the bus back
through Holloway, Archway and Finchley it’s a different story. The streets are emptier, there’s an eerie sense of curtain twitching. Cabin fever - desperate to get outside. I fear that the selfishness of the middle class (who already have giant back gardens) will cost us all.
I guess what I’m saying is there is no need for people to queue to get a takeaway coffee. Like it shouldn’t even be a thing. Stay at home and have a bloody BBQ.
