NYC is home to the nation’s largest public school system. The closure of its nearly 1,700 schools will have a profound effect on public schools throughout the nation.

I hope that we all rise to the challenge and work collectively to enhance public education for ALL children.

While many are lamenting about what may be lost with the physical closure of schools, I am rejoicing at what may be found.

Schools are hostile spaces for far too many children, particularly those of color. We should use this time to reimagine and redefine what schooling can be!
