The sentence & #39;Literary study can& #39;t be scientific& #39; would seem to contain a paradox: If not scientific then why a form of *study*? Would you propose a way out? What would it be?
In case it& #39;s not obvious, by & #39;scientific& #39; here I mean a way of going about answering a question; I don& #39;t mean & #39;a science,& #39; nor that the study of literature *is* a science in the way the study of subatomic particles is. I& #39;m thinking more like science per Quine and Ullian:
