THREAD: Sometime in March 2018, I notice that there was light in my estate but I didn't have power so I checked my meter & saw I still had units. I immediately drove to the PHCN office to lay a formal complain. They sent in an engineer to check my meter. While he was fiddling
Wit the meter, it exploded & almost burnt his hands. He reported by at his office, PHCN office at 2nd Avenue in Gwarimpa precisely. He later brought a document stating they will connect me to the grid directly until they are able to provide a new meter for me. Now here @segalink
is when the madness all begins. After 2 weeks, please note, not 1 month, but 2 weeks, they brought a bill of over N70,000 naira to me. I went to the office & was directed to the customer care where I was told to make a complaint in writing. I did & was assured it was @segalink
an error that will be fixed. I didn't hear from them for another 2 weeks when they brought another bill for over sixty thousand naira to me. PLEASE note, I live in a 3bedroom apartment, I am hardly home & I have never spent more than N11,000 monthly
I went back to the office once more to complain & was told to write again & was advise by one of their superior there to pay the amount I normally spend before my meter went bad, so I went ahead & paid N30,000 to cover for atlist 2months.
3 days later, they came & disconnected me from the grid. I went back to the office & again was told to pen down my complain. After so much screaming, I was told that the N30,000 naira I paid was too small that I should go & Make additional payment of N20,000 to top it up.
Out of frustration & needing power in my house because of my child, I went ahead & paid another N20,000 naira. That is N50,000 naira in 1 MONTH. Again I was told that they will adjust the monthly billing to N11,000 until all was sorted out. Well, they never did.
1 month later, they brought a bill of N130, 000 ofcuz I was not going to pay a dime at this point. So I went to the customer care & raise some dust. Told them I wasn't going to pay a dime until they issued me a new meter or adjust the bills to my normal monthly billing.
Meanwhile, I had printed my monthly billing for the previous 1 year & summited a copy to their office alongside copies of the complaints I had written & a letter asking them to cancel all the outrageous bills & so on. Well, that didn't work at all. 1 month later they came & disco
-nnected me from the grid. I called my lawyer, bought a new generator & decided I was going to fight back. Well, fast forward to 2019, I stay for over 6 months without power. They kept bringing bills to my house in hundreds of thousands of naira & everytime they came, they find
me using my gen set. I was spending almost N60,000 monthly just to run the generator. Sometime in May 2019 they had come on their normal criminal routine of droppin ghost bills & my security came to inform me that one of their staff wanted to see me. The lady sort of sympathized
She said, Sir, everytime we pass through ur house, we hear your generator sets working, I am worried that you are spending so much money, why don't you come to the office let's settle this once & for all. Well, at this point, my lawyer was also been frustrated by the system.
He had written to the Ministry of State, Power. He even got a letter from the Ministers office instructing that my case be looked into but to no avail. All efforts to fight them failed. So I went to the office to "settle things" By now the fraudulent bill they kept bringing while
they had disconnected me from the grid had accumulated to almost N900,000, can you imagine. One will think that the bill was for a bakery or hotel or Aso Rock. Anyway, I told them I wasn't going to pay a dime, we argue & argue, frustrated I agreed to pay N100,000 naira to them.
After about a week, I received a query from AEDC debt recovery department that I was to report at their office to make payment or face Legal Charges. I went with a friend who is a Col in the Army. We met with their superior, & I presented all my documents stating previous
payments before the whole madness, over ten letters that I wrote to query the office, the Letter from the Honorable Minister's Office, proof of money paid to them so far. He appeared to be shocked & in disbelief. Well, all that was mere pretence. He promised he was going to see
that the outrageous bill was cancelled & immediately ask that they begin a process for me to have a meter installed immediately. But just before we left his office, he advise me that I should go & pay something so I can be reconnected. I was furious, I ask him for What? He got
irritated by the question & told my friend that he should advice me to just do as he has said. We started arguing, my friend even opted to add some cash when he saw how angry i was. He calmly told me that I should pay & get reconnected. I eventually pay N50,000 naira before he
Called & I was reconnected. After some few days they brought another bill of over N100,000. I immediately called the Man & he said I shouldn't worry & just pay something. I just ignored him. They eventually brought my meter after I paid N72,000. I was told that the mad bill
would be cancelled & I will be charged normally henceforth. Well, that wasn't true, I noticed that evrytime I topped up, they took 15% of my money. Meaning if I bought N5000, they will deduct N1500 from the money aside the many other ridiculous charges. Frustrated once more I
went & complained again in writing to the customer care, again I was reassured that it will be resolved soon but they never did. I got tired & resigned to faith. Fast forward to April 9th, 2020, COVID-19 "Sit at Home" & social distancing period. I tried to top up via buypower
& got an error message telling me that my "vend amount" is low & should be above N1Million naira. What the HELL is wrong with this country. I felt like going to burn down the damn AEDC office. What kind of country do we live in for heaven's sake. I am calling on the
Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to take action on the rogues mounting this offices. The AEDC office & officers are corrupt and bunch of thieves. The Gwarimpa Office especially needs to be investigated. People shouldn't be paying for What they didn't consumed
Now I am been charged 50% for every top up I make. Meaning if I buy N10,000 worth, I only get less than N4,000 worth of power. What sort of evil is this. Even at this extreme crisis period. Please tag all the relevant authorities to this thread, this has got to STOP!!!
This constant stealing, this constant intimation, this constant frustration must STOP!!! @segalink @NGRSenate @HouseNGR @NGRPresident
