Back in 2006 I spent the whole year sending my own signed photo to 1000 celebrities. The rules are below, along with the photo I sent out (this one signed by Rolf Harris. More about that later). ⬇️
The first reply I got back was from @realshanerichie. I remember being SO excited when the postman delivered it. Seems like a nice chap.
I was very proudly on Gillian Taylforth's dressing room wall and had some soap royalty back including June Brown who put dots around her soap name.
Some replies had a bit more controversy attached to them...
I got a lovely cookbook back from @antonyworrallt and a jumper from Terry Wogan (but have no idea where that disappeared to).
One of the strangest replies came from then MP, and now PM, @BorisJohnson. The back of his signed photo had blu tack on it, like he had just taken it off his office wall...
Tony Blair didn't disappoint from number 10 but the Queen ruined valentines day.
. @ReeceShearsmith really got into the spirit and @RobBrydon had one of the best photos around. Mel Smith - what a guy!
Many people who replied really seemed to get what I was trying to do by sending my own signed photo. Which was to just highlight how ridiculous it all is.
Newsreaders were consistently good at sending me things. @maitlis sent a really fun reply while Piers Morgan's photo looked like it was taken at the local passport office.
I had some amazing people reply. Rosalind Pike won the award for most glamorous and Shirley Henderson made my Christmas.
. @brianblessed EAT YEAST! I was so excited when we had him @squarechapel twice last year.
No relation but Lesley Garrett sent a nice letter and I never did get around to joining the @mrmichaelball fanclub.
. @AleshaOfficial loved my signed photo so much she replied twice!
I wrote so many letters that year that I don't remember what I said but I obviously loved @GaryLineker style in the late noughties. @paulajradcliffe will always be my hero so I still have this on display in the house.
Probably best skipping this one but I always thought it odd that he'd sign my signed photo and send it back to me. I was tempted to sign his and send it back to him.
A couple of legends here. The Tony Hart letter made me cry but looking back I'm really glad I was able to sent my appreciation to him. Bruce is surely everyone's idea of a true entertainer.
Overall I got about 350 signed photos back from newsreaders, musicians, actors, models, politicians, presenters and everyone inbetween. The moral of the story is post is fun and the @RoyalMail are doing an amazing job of keeping us all connected at the moment. ❤📮
Also many thanks to @YArtspace who exhibited it in January 2017. It was my first solo show and I ended up in plenty of press. This bit from The Metro was good fun.
