This is so so horrible. The postal service is one of the most vital services offered by the government. It’s the biggest employer of veterans, including disabled veterans, in the country. It’s a service guaranteed by the constitution. People depend on the reliability of the Usps, especially rural folks and seniors. The Usps delivers SO MUCH medication that fedex or ups would never bother with, or would charge exorbitant fees for. And speaking of fedex and UPS...

You know who delivers a ton of their rural packages, and quite a bit of their non rural packages? The USPS. “The last mile”, they call it. They handle the stuff that the other couriers won’t bother with.

The entire reason the Usps seems insolvent is because republicans passed a bill requiring them to fund their pension 70 years into the future, something no one else on earth does. Because it’s stupid. Then they stop them from raising prices enough to cover some of the losses

The idea being that, if they can make it look like it loses money long enough, they can get people on the side of selling it off and privatizing it. But guess what, Usps doesn’t get a dime of your tax dollars. They’re asking for it now because a life changing event has occurred

And every private business in the country is asking for help. Businesses that are far less important. Businesses that have gotten a bailout in recent history that they just used to make themselves richer. Allowing Usps to die would fundamentally change America for the worse

Also, thank your carrier. Nobody works harder, and through more pain and terrible conditions, than your mail carrier. And most of them don’t make nearly as much as you think they do, and some don’t even get the good benefits. Shovel and salt, mow your grass, clean your porch

Put your mailbox at ground level, and during the summer, stick some cold water in a cooler on the porch for them. They’ll really really appreciate it.

Oh, and stop freaking out because you get mail that isn’t yours. Just put it back in the box
