Every time I think about Johnson, I remember when he appeared on ‘Late Show With David Letterman’.

After about three minutes of Johnson blustering, Dave paused and said “have you ever heard of Bobby Heenan?”.

A few people in the audience who got it bellowed with laughter.
This is Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan - a manager and commentator in the WWF (as was) in the 80s and 90s.

A manager is a guy who, in storyline, looks after his wrestlers as a real manager would, but in wrestling, a manager is there to talk for wrestlers who can’t deliver lines.
Heenan was a heel/baddy. He was nicknamed ‘The Brain’, but he was also called ‘Weasel’. A sneaky cheat with a big bragging mouth who would do anything to win, deny he’d done it, was always the victim when his man was beat, and would cry about it. He always had an excuse.
At this point in the run of the ‘Late Show’, Dave wasn’t rehearsing, wasn’t reading research, he was just going out and doing the show. Letterman was never into meeting the guests beforehand, he’d go out there and riff and see where he got.
It took Letterman about three minutes to perfectly sum up what Johnson is. He’s Bobby Heenan.
He’s a blagger, a bullshitter and a cheat. (The bit isn’t online - unless @thedonz5 can point me towards it?)

Dave is ace.
