How to pick the right products for your skin. A thread

The first and most important thing you need to know is your skin type.
Oily skin - large pores, excessive oil production, may be breakout/acne prone
Dry skin - fine pores, damaged lipid barrier, lack of moisturise, dull looking and flaky, can be irritated easily

Combination skin - normally oily T-Zone (forehead, nose, upper lip and chin) and then either dryness or normal skin elsewhere
Normal - fine pores, good balance to the skins oil production.

Another important thing to know about your skin is your skin condition. For example, I have combination skin type but my skin condition is sensitive and irritation prone - this is super important to know
Skin conditions like rosacea, melasma, eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis can all play a big part in the kind of products your skin needs. These conditions can make your skin react badly to active ingredients and can cause inflammation so try to use gentle, natural products.
Oily and combo skin types should look for clay masks to detox, oil cleansers can be good because oil attracts oil and gives a deeper cleanse than water based, a clarifying toner, chemical exfoliants like glycolic or lactic acid, hydrating serums and a water based moisturiser
Dry skin types should really focus on hydration and moisturising products. Non-drying masks, balm, cream or oil cleansers, a hydrating toner, hydrating serums like hyaluronic acid & oil serums that penetrate deeply like Marula oil and vitamin E, and a lightweight moisturiser.
Normal skin types can focus on not drying out their skin, keep it hydrated and protected from damage. Hydrating face masks, gentle hydrating cleansers, gentle exfoliants like lactic acid or mandelic acid, hydrating serums like HA and a lightweight moisturiser.
EVERYONE SHOULD BE WEARING AT LEAST SPF 30 SUNSCREEN EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!

This helps you protect your skin from UV rays and prevent damage caused by the sun.

All of this is just my personal advice (except the spf stuff, that’s facts and I heavily judge anyone who doesn’t wear SPF everyday), and obviously your skincare routine depends on various as each persons skin is different, but hopefully this can help you build up a basic routine
For a bit more insight and help building up your skincare routine, I did a thread the other day on AHA/BHAs also known as chemical exfoliants. You can check it out here:
