i need ppl to understand that every time u say "i don& #39;t read unfinished fics" u are indirectly saying "i don& #39;t care about supporting the author and cheering them on while they create for me, i only care about gobbling down the end product fuck ur effort"
and then these same people don& #39;t even write comments like do you know how long it takes to write "hey i liked this! keep going!"? 2 minutes. 2 minutes for a comment on a chapter that took 20-40 HOURS to write. when was the last time you ever dedicated 40 hours to something?
and that& #39;s just one chapter. no wonder so many crazy talented writers just fuck off or get a different hobby, yall dont know how to engage with passion projects that are based on love for the thing and not money bc if you paid u& #39;d be absolved from having to be grateful.
i& #39;m irked and my stats are so fucking good in comparison to everybody else. you want content and you want it now and you want it tailored to your tastes, so much "update soon? can you incorporate my ship? can they fight, fuck, fall off a cliff?"
so little "hey buddy this was great i can& #39;t wait to see where this is going!!" under the first chapters of fics by first time authors whose stories have so much potential but will never get written bc they& #39;re read but no one wants to commit to the absolute plight of feedback
we all love novel length comments but "hey i liked this!" is enough, it& #39;s so much better than silence. if an author would want silence they& #39;d never post their work. kudos the shit you read because if you make it to the kudos button you must have enjoyed it to some degree
comment to respect the effort somebody put in to entertain you and if you want to make it real spicy go crazy with a bookmark tag or two! if ao3 is too confusing hit up that cc! slide into those dms! someone gave something to you as a gift and you can& #39;t even say thank you?
anyways this was my rant of the day, go support your authors before they stop putting their efforts in and maybe apply the same newfound spirit to fan artists too bc lord knows their verbal feedback to like button stats are proper shit too
tl;dr if u say "i don& #39;t read unfinished fics" then natural selection is coming for you and i feel no pity
