It is stated that food security in a community is achieved when all people at all times have both physical and economic access to sufficient food to meet their dietary needs for productive and healthy lives. It further expatiate that the security depends on 3 pillars:
1. Food availability: that adequate food is physically present for the entire population’s consumption which means availability in the local markets and shops, is grown on farms or home gardens, or has arrived as the result of support from corporate bodies or relief agencies.
2. Food access: means that individuals can obtain available food. Food access is guaranteed when households have enough resources, like land, money, or social connections, to obtain nutritious foods in adequate amounts.
3. Food utilization: which refers to the way people’s bodies are able to use the food they eat. Making the best use of foods depends on proper food storage and processing, overall nutrition and health status,...
the availability of clean drinking water, and adequate health and sanitation services.
Given these, there are signs that shows that there is a threat to food security at a time as this where the world is faced with a global pandemic.

The global health impact of the COVID-19 has affect workforces, transportation systems, and supply chains.
Before the pandemic, it will be fair to say that there has been incessant inter-communal attacks on the farming communities in the food basket of the nation
Before the pandemic, it will be fair to say that there has been incessant inter-communal attacks on the farming communities in the food basket of the nation
which has negatively impacted food production from the farm and to deepen the effect on food security, it has now combined with impact of the COVID-19 virus in the country and this may result in your community experiencing a food crisis.
Part of the first things that will be observed that a pandemic could cause a food security problem are:
1. Industries that rely on import and export are struggling.
2. Food supplies are hard to get locally.
3. Economic activities are generally disrupted or totally shut down.

People at risk:
People with limited or irregular income
• People who cannot build up emergency reserves of money or food
• People in poor health (especially malnutrition, chronic disease, and compromised immune systems)

Those who rely on markets for the majority of food purchases (experts believe that market systems may be severely impacted)
• People without knowledge about how to prepare for a pandemic

People who migrate for income(we can’t deny them care neither can we deny their existence here as well.)
• Caregivers (We salute your continuous effort in this war against COVID-19 and Lassa Fever)

I do hope the Minister for Agriculture can look into the direction we are going as a nation at this time and the Minister for Interior also look at ways to proactively protect lives and properties if there comes an extreme action by the masses because of hunger.
Sharing money to buy what has not been produced will only lead to inflation. I hope it was considered before sharing money.
