It’s disappointing that each day seems to bring a new example of the police misapplying the legislation that some of them clearly don’t understand. https://twitter.com/bexmo/status/1248588173447442432
Just to be clear: the law says that you can only leave the house if you have a “reasonable excuse”. There is a *non-exhaustive* list of reasons that would constitute a reasonable excuse, which includes exercise.
The law DOES NOT say that you can only leave the house to make an essential journey. It does not say that you can only exercise outside if you can’t exercise inside. It does not say that you have to keep moving while you’re exercising.
The law does not say that you cannot sit down while outside. The law does not say that you should make the journey as brief as possible. The law does not even require you to keep two metres away from others (though you should do that anyway).
When I walked through a park, I only saw a handful of people there and everyone was keeping a good distance. One teenager, who I assume usually goes to the gym, found a log that he cleverly used to do weightlifting exercises. People should be left to exercise in peace.
The majority of police officers are clearly doing their job well and interpreting the law correctly. They are doing a difficult job in difficult circumstances and they deserve our praise. But the small minority who are not are a problem.
