Easter weekend in lockdown, a thread of suggestions. Any more welcome. Major museums and art galleries are putting lots more stuff to look at and read about on their websites. A few you might not have thought of: Manchester Museum https://www.museum.manchester.ac.uk/ 1/10
Imperial War Museum North https://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-north and Bradford's Science and Media Museum https://www.scienceandmediamuseum.org.uk/ 2/10
Or just have audio, while relaxing or cooking eg. Try the offerings of BBC Sounds. Music but also books (Jane Eyre, Ethan Frome, and contemporary novels too), dramatisations (Middlemarch, Pallisers), documentary series, shows like The Verb... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/categories 3/10
Podcasts- huge range, quality of course variable. I like The Poetry Exchange, where they talk to a guest each time, generally just the public not slebs, about a poem that has meant a lot to them and why, then read the poem for you. https://www.thepoetryexchange.co.uk/ 4/10
Which reminds me, the BBC Soul Music does a similar thing with great songs https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b008mj7p/episodes/player 5/10
Lots on telly of course especially with free catch ups or a free trial on one of the subscription services. iPlayer has all the films from BBC2 afternoons this week: School for Scoundrels, Man in the White Suit, Titfield Thunderbolt, Whisky Galore and Lavender Hill Mob 6/10
Also on iPlayer The Lady Vanishes, The Cruel Sea and In Which We Serve for lots of stiff upper lips including Noel Coward's. 7/10
Film 4 today has Local Hero at 2.45, Paddington at 5 and Four Weddings at 9. BBC2 at 9.15 has Victoria and Abdul or Channel 4 at 9 has Star Trek. Tomorrow BBC2 has Effie Gray at 11.15pm. On Monday Film 4 has Mike Leigh's Happy-Go-Lucky at 10.45pm. 8/10
I enjoyed listening/watching a short lecture from the Arts Society on Velazquez' Las Meninas. One of a series they will be making available online now but they are quite spaced out datewise. Any similar discoveries?
