11 April 1945 | American forces liberated the #Buchenwald concentration camp. Among liberated prisoners were those evacuated from #Auschwitz.

In this famous image, you can see former prisoners of the "little camp" in #Buchenwald who stare out from the wooden bunks. In the second row of bunks, seventh from the left, next to the vertical beam is Elie Wiesel who had been transferred there from #Auschwitz.
When the @USArmy reached #Buchenwald, the supreme commander of the Allied Forces, Dwight D. Eisenhower, writes: "Nothing has ever shocked me as much as that sight."
