I was copied into a Tweet yesterday by @Morose68 that included Horslips' version of The Snow that Melts the Soonest. I did a version of that with the Athletes, but we'd learned ours from Anne Briggs' singing, like a great deal of the trad songs I do -
But here's our version. I think we can all agree it's G.A.F
As a song, it's been recorded thoosands o' times, but my favourite, aside from Annie Briggs', is Dick Gaughan's -
and I remember being quite fond of @elizacarthy's take -
And a shout out to Archie Fisher, of course - from 1968 -

The song was first noted down in the early C19th, I think.
And this was our version of 'Edward', from our 2004 album 'Just Beyond the River' - That's Reuben on the harpsichord. I think Faisal did the wine glasses and maybe @FourTet on slide guitar.
And I learned 'Edward' direct from this recording by the great Jean Ritchie - -
But I love Nic Jones' version with the fiddle -
And also Jeannie Robertson's 'My Son David' -
Which is the same song, mostly...
