I feel like a slightly mad conspiracy theorist shouting a pigeons, but here goes...
There is only ONE company in the UK (in Scotland) that makes the specialist Spunbond/Meltblown fabrics required for PPE equipment.

#COVID_19uk
Globally, countries are now rapidly banning the export of these fabrics, and the PPE gowns and masks that are made from these specialist factories. So exactly how are we in the UK going to ramp up making our own PPE?

So when the world market closes down , we will have NO PPE. The @GOVUK needs to urgently establish a taskforce to rapidly make the UK self-sufficient in PPE. This will require a huge engineering effort and substantial Gov support, but it can be done.

The world leader in manufacturing the machines that make these specialist fabrics is German http://reicofil.com
They are inundated with commercial orders for their machines from China, but surely national interests beat commercial ones. Step up @GOVUK

#COVID_19uk
Get these machines in and set up a huge plant. At the same time buy the automated mask and PPE making machinery from China. Leadtime is usually 4-6 weeks, but @GOVUK can put pressure on or what use are they?

Get @rollsroyce @f1 @dyson and other engineering companies to copy the automated mask and PPE making machines and make more. Bloody quickly. Buy the specialist bonding machines for the gowns and coveralls and get @MakeItBritish to manage the end production of the garments.
Surely the fact that when the international supply chain closes down we will be unable to make our own PPE is a National Security issue? Please RT this thread or I am just shouting at pigeons. Ta.
