so I& #39;m a little conflicted here bc this is absolutely a good thread and I totally agree with the gist of what she& #39;s saying but also I DO remember this lady going after Contrapoints and kinda egging on exactly the same sort of harassment she& #39;s talking about as Bad https://twitter.com/Calliethulhu/status/1248692430901297157">https://twitter.com/Calliethu...
And you know people can change their views about things and that& #39;s genuinely really great and something to be encouraged! But also I think it& #39;s important to acknowledge one& #39;s own mistakes, bc it& #39;s not like this kind of community harassment occurs in a vacuum.
The actions of individuals (partic. large accounts) give approval/disapproval about whether or not harassment is okay. They have influence - and some power - over their followers and whether harassers feel like they& #39;re "doing the right thing." They can use that for good or bad.
I remember Contra saying she received messages from influential accounts which said they "supported her" but couldn& #39;t publicly say that bc it would be career/brand suicide. And, well, that kind of action - and the fear driving it- is understandable but also exactly the problem.
Part of how we change trans community norms away from harassment is necessarily acknowledging our own mistakes, even when it& #39;s scary!! But it& #39;s a great thread and I& #39;m hesitant to criticise someone too harshly when it seems like they& #39;ve changed their views in the right direction.
