The clear message is Londoners should stay at home to save lives. Our record investment in walking & cycling over the past 4 years is making it easier & safer for critical workers to get to where they need to be. NHS staff, carers & police can use @SantanderCycles for free.
Any temporary cycle lanes on TfL’s road network wouldn't keep people safe without major changes to junctions. These would need to be installed by a significant number of on-site workers. Construction workers (inc those building cycleways) shouldn't be travelling at this time.
Road traffic levels across London have now halved and it is great to see so many critical workers taking advantage of quieter streets by getting to where they need to be on bike.
Most people using roads are doing it safely but sadly some are selfishly breaking the rules & driving dangerously fast. Speeding is dangerous & especially reckless during this time of national crisis. Robust action will be taken against those putting themselves and others at risk
