So I buried my Grandather this morning but I noticed that there are so many uncertainties pertaining to funerals or burials during the shutdown period.

Some helpful notes:
1. You'll need a permit if you are travelling to another metro district, town or province.

These permits can be obtained at the police station or the Magistrate that has jurisdiction over the area you reside in.
It is important to go to your district police station/Magistrates bc you WILL get turned away if the police station or Magistrate doesn't have jurisdiction.

2. Documents that you will have to fill in include:
A. The Permit
B. Sworn Affidavit
C. Certification
3. You need to have identification and a death certificate of the person (a death notice will suffice). Alternatively, a sworn affidavit.

4. Persons who may attend -
See attached photo

(DISASTER MANAGEMENT ACT, 2002: AMENDMENT OF REGULATIONS ISSUED IN TERMS OF SECTION 27(2))
5. The attendance at a funeral or cremation is limited to 50 people and all safety hygiene measures should be strictly adhered to (pls try and stay home if you can!)

6. If you are travelling by car, a 5 seater vehicle is limited to transporting no more than 3 people at a time.
Other things to note:
- I struggled at the police station because the station commander was not in yet and I was told that "no one else may sign the permits".
This is not true:
8(e):

"A Magistrate who is the head of office or a station commander of a police station or a person designated by him or her, may issue the permit contemplated in paragraph (d)."
A designated person at the station can thus sign it.

I had an incredibly hard time trying to reiterate this at the police station.

Don't let SAPS take advantage of you. You are a citizen and SAPS are supposed to protect your interests.
- This process was quite time consuming. It took me 2 hours and the station was empty at the time.
Have all documentation ready so that you don't have to go back and forth.

- Please try and stay home if you can.
- Maintain good hygiene practices đŸ™ŒđŸœ

Fin.
Don't risk it.
There are definitely roadblocks 😬
