On 3/29 I sent an open letter to @GovLarryHogan warning him that more aggressive action was needed to prevent hospital overload in MD. My concern was their communications of being âmost aggressiveâ and âweeks ahead of hospital surge planâ were overconfident. THREAD https://twitter.com/kimboyadjian/status/1244251980752658433
Sincere efforts have been made to close gaps. It isnât easy. Mike Ricci @riccimike has been mostly accessible and responsive. Still, I am alarmed that certain issues are still occurring seemingly due to bureaucracy or greed.
One glaring example is New Car Sales. Attempts were made to amend the essential business list and close this down. A source confided to me that the Maryland Dealership Association called and âthrew a hissy fit.â
My source notes, âUnfortunately more and more people are flocking to dealerships because itâs something to do not because they truly are in need of a replacement vehicle. At this point...â
â...most if not all purchases have been luxury vehicles I can not recall one transaction that was a life satiating purchase.â
People are bored and out shopping for fun because the Maryland Dealership Association complained and our state caved.

How does this affect sales staff?
âAt one point we had well over 16 people in the showroom. I was able to politely ask a few guests to move over to the service side of the dealership to continue there transactions. For fear of COVID 19 and law enforcement.â

âTo make things even worse the manufacturers are offering outstanding APR deals that any other time would be amazing. To me this is just like bait to a mouse drawing them out...â
Staff is also affected financially.
âthe sad thing is weâre not selling more cars weâre seeing a lot of traffic but no one has jobs to buy them... my salesman theyâre making very little right now. If they were allowed to stay home and actually make more on unemployment.â

The next, most infuriating, example involves condo tenants with expiring leases terrified because strangers are walking through their homes 2-3 times per weeks for showings. https://twitter.com/mal_sofastaii/status/1248361482972258306?s=21 https://twitter.com/mal_sofastaii/status/1248361482972258306
I will touch briefly on construction. Issues with this are worthy of their own thread. Big corporate home improvement stores are open and flourishing. Aside from supporting construction, people bored at home are shopping for non-essential home improvement projects.
A home improvement store worker tells me, âMy store finally got masks in. We each get two and theyâre disposable. We were told to not take them out of the store and to not throw them away and reuse them.â
Many people are hesitant to speak out for fear of losing their jobs in an already struggling economy. They feel helpless. Their only current option is to call the police, which isnât realistic or good enough.
A recent executive order empowering @MDHealthDept to enforce safety measure has been delayed. As of yesterday, they are still awaiting guidance from @GovLarryHogan before they take action. https://twitter.com/rlrottman/status/1248634949143535618?s=21 https://twitter.com/rlrottman/status/1248634949143535618
I recently recommended a conference call with everyday folks to let @GovLarryHogan know what is really going on. I will share an update to this thread if progress on that front is made. https://twitter.com/kimboyadjian/status/1248416789895102471?s=21 https://twitter.com/kimboyadjian/status/1248416789895102471
