Grooming gangs exploit thousands of vulnerable girls every year in the UK, and for decades government has done little to nothing about them. Now we have a man, @Keir_Starmer, who could turn the tide. #groominggangs THREAD /1
In 2019, 19 thousand girls were raped by #groominggangs. The perpetrators, almost all muslim men, are occassionally brought to justice, but many aren't properly investigated. Why? Grooming gangs target mostly white girls, so as well as paedophiles, the perpetrators are also racist. Yet by bringing up *facts*, such as the perpetrators being Muslim men, you can be called a racist. But @Keir_Starmer has a long history with this and knows what a huge issue this is. He is former head of the CPS and is quoted to have said the system is"barely fit for purpose for victims" https://www.theguardian.com/law/2014/apr/02/victims-law-keir-starmer /6
Amazing people like @SarahChampionMP and @MaajidNawaz have been campaining for years in the darkness. But they have been ignored, and the far right have swept in and used the issue to bolster their anti-Muslim rhetoric. /7
