Yes, this is less well-known story about Brunei citizenship.

And yes people, INDIGENOUS PEOPLE of Borneo like Ibans and Penans are PERMANENT RESIDENTS and considered as NON-BUMIPUTERA in Brunei.

Brunei's main policy is ASSIMILATION; convert into Islam and adopt Malay culture. https://twitter.com/crazysmartasian/status/1248645745239920641
You probably wonder these two indigenous groups aren't Bumiputera. For the Ibans, most probably because during Brooke era, the Ibans in Brunei were migrating from Sarawak.

But I think the obvious reason is because the Ibans aren't fond of religion or adopting different culture.
And for the Penans, these people are jungle dweller and animist. Very resistant of changing their lifestyle and belief, like the Ibans.

There was mass conversion of other indigenous groups once upon a time due to state pressure.
Why I said the Ibans "aren't fond of religion"?

Well, it's the same case in Sarawak when Christian missionaries were here. Compare to other indigenous groups like Orang Ulus (Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit, Lun Bawang etc) where almost all of them are Christianised.

The Ibans are not.
Maybe I didn't articulate well at my first tweet.

Other indigenous peoples are citizens EXCEPT Ibans and Penans.

There.
Remember my old tweet when I said Ibans in Sarawak are not all real Christians? https://twitter.com/tijanishere/status/1222001784413024257
There is this constant pressure from the state to convert the rest of the indigenous people.

If you are non-Malay and non-Muslim, discrimination is normal, unfavourable treatments etc.

So... 😌😌😌😌
And the Chinese in Brunei lagi teruk, they are Permanent Resident and "pendatang". Truly Malaysian supremacist wet dream. 😂😂😂
Oleh sebab ada orang Brunei triggered and couldn't accept his country is so bad, nah, please read;
