SOCIAL DISTANCING VS HERD IMMUNITY

Thread.

I have been following this debate on several forums.

Some epidemiologists say social distancing is a political solution to a viral problem. They say social distancing slows down the spread of the virus but it does not eliminate it.
According to them, people could still get infected when they leave their houses after 30 days.

They argue that the best protection against a viral respiratory disease such as COVID-19 is herd immunity.
They say herd immunity is allowing everyone to get infected and leaving the work of eliminating the virus to the human immune system.

They say 10% of the victims would die, but the remaining 90% would be permanently immune to that strain of the virus.
They say social distancing only postpones the problem.

Since I am not an epidemiologist, I find this debate interesting but complicated.

Is there anyone on my timeline who can explain it to me like he or she would to a Class 3 pupil?
